Our family had one of these, and I remember very well being stuffed in the backseat as a kid. A trunked coupe, 5-cylinders, with a 4-speed manual. When it was sent to the great parking lot in the sky, I watched my dad actually tear up.

Some cars are so much more than the sum of their parts.

My father had the cheap Brazilian knockoff version. He loved it.

I feel the same way about the ‘81 Corolla Tercel. Good memories in that car.
(Ours was blue, but I couldn’t find a picture online f a blue sedan — weird.) When I turned 16, my Dad wanted to give it to me, but I didn’t want it. I was an idiot. Instead I bought a similar-vintage F-150.

Kind of. It’s a two door.
This is the coupé. Source: I used to have one.
So far as I know they called the 80 the 4000 in America because they like big numbers there.
The 100 became the 5000 (also to emphasise the five cylinder engines that some had).
